Mayor Joseph DeIorio

         Mayor DeIorio was born May 21, 1966 in Elizabeth General Hospital, to the parents of Gilda and Vincent DeIorio. He has two siblings, Carmen (brother) & Geri (sister), married to Kevin Leary, and their children, Tommy, Shannon, and Brendan. Joe is a life long resident of the Borough of Roselle Park and graduated from the Roselle Park School System. Mayor DeIorio’s parents are immigrants from the southern region of Italy. He enjoys visiting his extended family from time to time where he has the opportunity to practice his fluency in the Italian language. 

Mayor DeIorio is a graduate of:

• Rutgers University, Ph. D. (ABD) in Public Administration, June 1997, Concentration, Public Budgeting and Finance
• Kean College, Masters in Public Administration, 1993
• Pace University, with a Bachelors and Business Administration, 1988, Major: Public Accounting
• Graduate and Undergraduate Courses in Public Administration and Political Science.
• Specialities in State and Local Government and Public Budgeting. 
• Currently earning credits toward becoming a New Jersey Certified Municipal Finance Officer.

        Additionally, the Mayor has been an adjunct professor for several Universities, such as Kean University and Rutgers University. 

         Mayor DeIorio is a former Accountant and Staff Member at the Senate Majority Office in Statehouse, Trenton, NJ, and currently works for the 21st Distrist office of Senator Thomas Kean Jr., Assemblyman Eric Munoz, M.D. and Assemblyman John Bramnick serving as Legislative Aide to Assemblyman Munoz, M.D. 

        The Mayor's commitment to public service began 17 years ago in 1990 when he was elected as Fourth Ward Councilman. After serving two terms as Councilman, the residents of the borough elected Joe DeIorio as their Mayor. Mayor DeIorio has been the Mayor since 1995, having the honor of serving three terms, thus becoming the longest serving Mayor in Roselle Park history, and has been inducted to the New Jersey League of Municipalities Mayor’s Hall of Fame. 

        During his tenure in public service, he has been bestowed the honors of: the 2004 Mayor of the Year by the Gateway Chamber (formerly Union County) of Commerce and the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Award for the "Mayor Joe and I Don’t Smoke" campaign. He has also served in other leadership positions such as President of the Union County League of Municipalities, Chairman of the Roselle Park Community Alliance Against Substance Abuse, and in 1997 was one of 20 individuals statewide to participate in Leadership New Jersey, a yearlong professional achievement program. He is proud of the many accomplishments of the Governing Body, including, the construction of the Anthony Signorella Roselle Park Youth Center, the Monsignor Joseph Loretti Park, improvements to recreational programs and parks, organizing numerous community wide events and implementing a special improvement district to enhance the downtown business district.
        
        In his spare time, the Mayor is a Lecture for the Church of the Assumption and volunteers his time and effort to mentor children and to raise money for various local and national charitable causes.
