FUN FRIDAY
January 22, 2021
Kids at the ASYC have been very busy for sure! Besides regular tutoring sessions and homework assistance, our other daily activities have been a hit!
We know math can be boring...but not on Math Monday! During our virtual ASYC meetings, kids can log on and play a variety of math puzzles and games! There's Cool Math 4 Kids and FunBrain, as well as more academic activities from Khan Academy. Either way, you can learn math your way at the ASYC!
Tuesdays are usually dedicated to Science. Maybe you've always wanted to learn more about your favorite scientist Issac Newton, discover the latest science news about social distancing, or participate in a video tutorial experiment! If so, ASYC is the place for you!
Wednesdays have been focusing on our ELA book club podcast series and other ELA based activities. Ever read Fish in a Tree or Our Teacher is a Vampire and Other (not) True Stories? During book club, selections from books are read aloud (sometimes even by the authors themselves!). Other ELA activities include grammar games and informational texts.
We also always try and fit in some grade appropriate Social Studies lessons throughout each week. Recently, kids at the ASYC have read about the historic event at Pearl Harbor, discovered who settled and explored the U.S., and have even taken (virtual) field trips to the National Constitution Center!!
During January, we had an entire week dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! Kids were able to engage in an online picture book read aloud, study the biography of the famous Civil Rights leader, take a virtual tour of the Civil Rights Museum, and even participate in a BrainPOP all about Dr. MLK! This week was both fun and informative!
Finally, FUN FRIDAY is available (but not mandatory, as we have other lessons posting that day). Recently, students participating in our FUN FRIDAY activities learned how to make moveable paper elephants, create paper-plate snowmen, and even watched tutorials and created Disney animations (like from the movie CARS). There's a new theme and movie every week!
If FUN FRIDAY isn't for you, but you still want to participate in the ASYC for the day, swing on by! We have STEM activities as well as tutoring and homework available everyday no matter what!
Stop by and see what we're all about!!

This week (10/16) our FUN FRIDAY theme was EVERYTHING EMOJI!! Students were asked to create a craft and make their own emoji out of a paper plate. Since students are all virtual (and they use their own materials) we didn't have any paper plate submissions. However, the kids were able to improvise and make original EMOJI drawings instead! These were so good we just couldn't pick one winner! We followed up our craft with no other than THE EMOJI MOVIE! Through the adventures of Gene, the emoji with multiple expressions, the kids learned that it's ok to be different and to always use all of your facial expressions! :) :)
Join us next week at the ASYC for all of our daily activities, homework help, tutoring, workouts, and contests!
