The Department of Code Enforcement administers and enforces all laws, codes, ordinances and regulations, both State and local, including the Uniform Construction Code, the Land Use Regulations of the Borough of Roselle Park, the Property Maintenance Code of the Borough of Roselle Park and any laws and/or regulations relating to the Divisions within the Code Enforcement Department, relating to building, construction, plumbing, fire protection, electrical enforcement, safety and control of land use, health, and shall perform all inspections relating thereto.
This division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). The UCC dictates what building codes are to be used in the design and construction of new buildings, additions, alterations, rehabilitations, etc. of residential and non-residential structures. This division issues construction permits and conducts the necessary inspections to verify the work performed is to the codes.
Inspections may be scheduled by calling the Construction Code offices at least 24 hours before the inspection is desired. The scheduling of inspections is workload-dependent, and inspections are performed as soon as possible. Inspections must be scheduled for each Subcode for which a permit was issued. To schedule an inspection please call (908) 245-2721 and have the permit number, address and block/lot of the property, and the type of inspection being requested available. Do not leave a message on the voicemail system to schedule the inspections. Please leave your contact information and your call will be returned to schedule the inspection.
This division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Borough’s property maintenance code. This division enforces the International Property Maintenance Code adopted by the International Code Council and other relative Borough Ordinances.
This division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Borough’s Land Use and Development Ordinance also known as the zoning ordinance. This Division reviews applications for consistency with the Land Use and Development Ordinance.
The Zoning Office processes zoning permit applications for new buildings, additions, decks, fences, pools, patios, sheds, standby generators, driveways, sidewalks and commercial buildings, tenancies and signage and awnings. Zoning Approval is required before any structure can be built or altered, or its use changed. A Zoning Permit and current survey must also be presented whenever an application is made for Construction Permits.
Questions concerning Zoning classifications, setback requirements, minimum lot requirements, and permitted uses for a property can be addressed by calling (908) 245-2721.
Effective March 5, 2018 the NJ Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA) has adopted changes to Minor Work and Ordinary Maintenance that may impact your construction project. “SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO MINOR WORK AND ORDINARY MAINTENANCE” are outlined within the following NJDCA web link: http://www.nj.gov/dca/divisions/codes/alerts/pdfs/OM_MW_03052018.pdf
